“La Suprema” around the world

The Toronto International Film Festival will take place, from September 7th to September 17th, Colombia will be represented by La Suprema, a feature film that promises to be one of next year’s highlights when it hits local theaters.

This event, one of the most important film festivals in the world, will feature 60 films. Filmmakers, movie stars, and industry experts will participate.

The film, directed by Felipe Holguín, an alumn from Colegio Hacienda Los Alcaparros, with producer Tere Gaviria, will be part of the Official Discovery Selection, competing for the People’s Choice Award and the Platform Prize Award.

It is a mix of drama and humor, depicting resolve of Latin American families, through the story of Laureana, an Afro-Colombian teenager, who lives in La Suprema and dreams of becoming a boxer.

“This achievement is a dream, because one of the things I long for the most is for ‘La Suprema’ to be seen in every corner of the world and what better way to start than in one of the most prestigious film festivals and the most important in North America. It reflects the number of people who live in precarious and forgotten situations, but who do not remain in their tragedy, rather, they live their reality with hope and resilience,” said Felipe Holguín.

La Suprema is produced by Cumbia Films, in co-production with Ferviente Films, Telepacífico, and HD Cinema Colombia; with the support of Fondo para el Desarrollo Cinematográfico, and  Proimágenes Colombia, in association with Labo Digital Colombia, La Tina Sonido, Mapalé Films, Olehada Films and Artesanos de Luz.
